Blue Magpie

Homestay’s in Rural Kumaon

The essence of breeze….

Feel the Himalayas with ‘Blue Magpie’, village homestays where the guest / traveler can experience life in the mountains, enjoy the beauty of the snow clad peaks, and relax amidst the surrounding lush greenery. Situated in Peora – a small Himalayan hamlet,  near Mukteshwar in Nainital district, the homestays are distinguished by the flora and fauna of the region. Essentially a fruit growing belt, the summer harvest offers apricots, peaches, plums and pears. A walk in the deep of oak and pine forests can surprise one with the sighting of a leopard (if lucky!); the sound of the barking deer is commonly heard.

The name of the homestays has been inspired by the red-billed Himalayan Blue Magpie, a majestically beautiful bird that visits the area in the winter months. For bird watchers this region can be a paradise…. for the rich variety of birds that can seen here.  All seasons have their own attraction, the monsoons  bringing the merry sound of water flowing down rivulets, with winter comes the fiery red of the rhododendron flowers and the warmth of sitting around fires burning pine cones.

Come toBlue Magpie and let your stay be a memory to cherish.

Driving Route details for drive up from Kathgodam, the railhead.

Katgodam  – Bhimtal 21kms – Bhowali 10kms

From Bhowali there are 2 routes:

1)       Bhowali – Malla Ramgarh – 14 kms  - Talla Ramgarh – 9kms – Nathuakhan – 12 kms – Sitla – 7kms  – Satkhol (Peora) – 5kms. Total 45kms.  3 kms after Malla  Ramgarh there is  a fork. Take the down road to Talla Ramgarh. The up road goes to Mukteshwar.

2)      Bhowali – Khairna 19kms – Kwarab 21 kms – Satkhol – 15 kms.  Total 55 kms.

At  Kwarab  do not cross the bridge (to Almora) but go straight on the road to Mauna. After 10 kms and 2 kms before Mauna take the u-turn going up.  From there Satkhol (Peora) is 5 kms.

Suggest taking the 1st route as the second one has been damaged by rain and may take a while to be repaired.

At Satkhol (Peora) ask for the Sanjay Bisht House.

Almost all mobiles services work here.
